There are Wind Chill Warnings for Central Alabama this weekend! That is something you rarely see in this part of the country.
These Wind Chill temps are DANGEROUS.
Exposed skin can suffer frost bite.
Sufficient exposure can lead to hypothermia which is a life-threatening
emergency!
Take a few precautions before you head outside:
·
Dress in layers.
·
Cover exposed skin (don't forget your head & hands)
·
Wear waterproof boots - keep your feet dry.
·
Cotton is a TERRIBLE insulator if it gets wet. Wear appropriate synthetic or wool garmets
for outside activities.
·
Let a responsible person know where you are going and what time to expect
your return.
·
Have your cell phone fully charged before venturing into the woods.
·
Consider a map/compass or GPS unit unless you are thoroughly familiar with
the area. Know how to navigate the area.
·
Carry at least two light sources.
·
A small, individual first aid kit and a fire-making kit are excellent items
to carry along.
